Bus fire on company premises leads to complete burning of a vehicle hall - one person slightly injured

On Sunday morning (19.01.2025), the Düren Police control center was notified of a fire on a company premises on Mestrenger Straße at 10:24 am. A coach parked there was engulfed in flames.
According to initial investigations, a 55-year-old bus driver from Aachen was conducting a routine check on his coach before it was to be used for a planned trip. During the drive out of a vehicle hall, the driver initially noticed smoke through the rear-view camera, which he mistook for exhaust fumes. As the smoke intensified, he went to the back of the bus and found that a fire had broken out in the engine area. The fire quickly spread to the vehicle hall, which was completely engulfed in flames. Several buses and extensive tools were located in the hall. The exact amount of the resulting property damage cannot yet be determined.

The bus driver was unharmed. A 66-year-old woman who tried to extinguish the fire suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital for further medical treatment with minor injuries. In addition, an adjacent residential building was evacuated for safety reasons. All residents were able to leave the building unharmed.

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing. The fire department is still busy with the extinguishing work. The fire site has been cordoned off extensively, causing current traffic disruptions. The police ask residents and road users to avoid the area extensively.

The Düren Police will report on further developments.
