Again thefts from motor vehicles in the Merzig area

For the umpteenth time, the Merzig Police Inspection has to record a series of thefts from motor vehicles. After incidents in Mettlach, Brotdorf and Saarhölzbach in the past weeks, the unknown perpetrators were active in Merzig-Schwemlingen last night, from 15th to 16th January 2025. In several streets, the perpetrators targeted parked vehicles and checked the locking situations.
Valuables were stolen from unlocked vehicles. In a few cases, windows of locked vehicles were smashed and visible valuables were stolen from the interior. The police advise not to leave any valuables in parked vehicles. In addition, the PI Merzig asks for vigilance and to report any suspicious observations that may be related to such incidents to the police immediately. The past incidents were committed on different weekdays at night, mostly after midnight.
