Nienburg/Schaumburg - CEO Fraud - The Nienburg/Schaumburg Police Inspection provides clarification

(Reh) The Nienburg/Schaumburg Police, due to a recent case in which a company based in Nienburg fell victim to this scam shortly before Christmas and was defrauded of over 12,000 euros, draws attention to a scam method repeatedly used by fraudsters and often causing significant damage: CEO Fraud ("Executive Fraud"). In this scam, fraudsters pose as executives of a company and ask their supposed employees to make transfers.
The CEO Fraud in detail:

In the so-called CEO Fraud, fraudsters gather all kinds of information about the company they are targeting and then, usually by phone or email, pose as the CEO to other employees. During the call or correspondence, they ask their employee to transfer a large amount of money to another account. Often, a company takeover or a supposedly changed account connection is given as the reason for the money transfer. To increase credibility, the perpetrators falsify their phone numbers (so-called Call-ID-Spoofing) or create company-like email addresses. In some cases, a forged invoice is also presented.

Additional offer: The Central Contact Points Cybercrime

The "Central Contact Points Cybercrime" (ZAC) of the police, which are affiliated to the state criminal investigation department for Lower Saxony, offer companies consultations, training and support on the topic of cyber security.

To provide professional support to companies both preventively and after an attack by cyber criminals, the ZAC Lower Saxony has set up a hotline at 0511 9873-6230 for all companies based in Lower Saxony. Furthermore, checklists and videos on the topic of cybercrime can be viewed on the ZAC website. The website can be accessed at https://www.zac-niedersachsen.de.

In addition, the Central Contact Points Cybercrime also offer support in the development of security concepts through consultation talks and events.

The offer is expressly not only aimed at large corporations, but also at small and medium-sized enterprises.
