Drunk driver fled from the police

On 15.01.2025 at around 22:05, a witness reported to the police emergency call that an apparently heavily intoxicated man was driving his Mazda car towards Sellin in the Baltic Sea resort of Göhren. A radio patrol car crew from the Sassnitz police station was immediately dispatched.
They were able to locate the vehicle on the B196 at the exit of Göhren. When the 32-year-old Polish driver noticed the police officers, he ignored their stop signals, accelerated his vehicle and tried to escape. In doing so, he veered off the road to the right in Bahnhofstraße and damaged his vehicle. Nevertheless, he tried to continue his escape. However, this was prevented after a short distance by the police officers by overtaking his vehicle and braking him to a standstill. During the subsequent traffic check, alcohol was detected in the driver's breath. A breathalyzer test conducted on the spot revealed a value of 1.99 per mille. A drug test was positive for THC. Furthermore, the driver was not in possession of the required driving license. The driver was reported for drunk driving and driving without a license.
