BPOL NRW: 8,500 Euro Fine - Employer Enables Further Travel

On Wednesday afternoon (January 15), a man intended to enter the country via Dortmund Airport. However, a check on his person revealed an unpleasant surprise for him, as a prosecutor's office had already issued two arrest warrants for him.
Federal police arrested the wanted man.

Around 5 p.m., the 38-year-old appeared at the border police immigration control of a flight from Pristina/Kosovo. For the purpose of checking his person, the man identified himself to the officers with a Slovenian passport. Investigations revealed that the Waldshut-Tiengen prosecutor's office had issued two arrest warrants against him. The Waldshut-Tiengen district court first convicted the Slovenian citizen in January 2023, for drunk driving, to a fine of 155 daily rates of 50,- Euro each. About a year later, in January 2024, the district court again convicted him, due to an offense under the Narcotics Act. The man from Kassel was sentenced to a fine of 15 daily rates of 50,- Euro each.

Since the wanted person had neither paid the total amount of 8,500,- Euro (plus court costs), nor had he responded to the summons to serve his sentence, he was listed for arrest by the responsible prosecutor's office.

The federal police arrested the convicted man and took him to the station at Dortmund Airport. After being given the opportunity to inform a person about the situation, the 38-year-old called his employer. He agreed to pay the required sum at a police station in Kassel. After this was done, the Slovenian was allowed to leave the federal police station. By paying the fine, he was able to avoid a likely prison sentence of 170 days.
