During the checks in Sandhausen, the police had to find out that in the 35 checked parent taxis, a total of four children were sitting in the vehicles without the necessary safety measures - sometimes they were not buckled up, sometimes required child seats or booster seats were not used or not even carried along. The rules are clear: Child seats are mandatory for children up to the age of 12 who are smaller than 150 cm. The penalties are also clear: Transporting a child without a child seat results in a warning fine of at least 30 euros. If the child is completely unsecured, a fine of at least 60 euros is imposed and there is a point in the traffic offender file.
Positive aspects were also observed during the checks: Many children are accompanied to school every day by their parents on foot or by bicycle. The parents thus ensure a safe way to school for their children, with exercise in the fresh air. The police ask all other parents to check the necessity of the parent taxi and only use it as a last resort. The Osterholz Police Station will continue to monitor school routes in the future and penalize rule violations.
