Suspect identified after several thefts - District Court orders pre-trial detention

Following intensive investigations by the criminal police, a 36-year-old Moroccan was arrested last week. At the request of the Schwerin public prosecutor's office, the responsible Wismar district court has ordered pre-trial detention for the man.
The suspect is strongly suspected of having committed several thefts in Wismar, Schwerin and Rostock since June of last year, together with other individuals who are separately being prosecuted. Among other things, he is accused of having stolen items from parked vehicles on several occasions. This happened, among other places, in the market square in Wismar as well as in Schwerin and Rostock. According to the investigations, the 36-year-old apparently manipulated the locking mechanisms of the vehicles. While the victims tried to lock their vehicles with the remote control, he unnoticedly opened a door of the parked cars. He then removed items left in the vehicles, including cash and high-quality consumer electronics.

The presumption of innocence is noted.
