BPOL NRW: Unauthorized presence on the tracks - Federal Police warn of life-threatening danger!

On Friday afternoon (17th January), a man unlawfully entered the track area at Gelsenkirchen main station. A Deutsche Bahn employee noticed the individual and alerted the Federal Police.
The police are warning about the dangers that lurk on railway facilities.

At around 3:30 pm, a train attendant of a regional express informed the Federal Police in Gelsenkirchen that a man had just climbed onto the track area at platform 2. The officers eventually found the 40-year-old man on the platform for tracks 6/7.

The Spanish citizen had previously climbed into the danger area at various points to collect deposit bottles. The officers pointed out the man's misconduct. A surveillance camera recorded the man's illegal behaviour.

After the police officers had pointed out the existing dangers of railway operations to the individual, he was released. The federal police initiated a regulatory offence procedure against the 40-year-old Spaniard for unauthorized stay in the tracks.

In this context, the Federal Police once again point out how reckless and life-threatening it is to stay in the track area. Modern trains are usually only heard when it could already be too late. In addition, they cannot swerve. Fatal dangers not only come from the train traffic itself, but also from operational facilities, such as live parts, masts and other infrastructure. The suction created by passing trains can cause objects located directly at the platform edge to move. Only cross the safety line marked on the ground when the train stops.
