BPOL NRW: Federal Police arrest 25-year-old at Bochum Central Station - Friend enables freedom

On Friday evening (January 17), federal police officers checked a man at Bochum main station. The inspection of his person revealed that a public prosecutor's office had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Around 11:30 pm, federal police officers patrolled the Bochum main station. During their patrol, the officers noticed a 25-year-old and subjected him to a person check. Investigations revealed that the Bochum public prosecutor's office had issued a warrant for his arrest. The Herne-Wanne district court had legally convicted the Kenyan citizen in July 2021, for obtaining services by deception in ten cases, to a fine of 100 daily rates of 20 euros each.

Since the homeless man had neither paid the required sum of 1,680 euros (plus court costs) nor complied with the summons to start his sentence, he was listed for arrest by the Bochum public prosecutor's office.

The federal police officers arrested the convicted man and took him to the federal police station at Bochum main station. On site, he was given the opportunity to inform a person about the situation. The young man then contacted a friend who agreed to pay the fine. By paying, the Kenyan was able to avoid a prison sentence of presumably 84 days and subsequently leave the station.
