Korbach - Mobile phone stolen, police investigating for robbery theft and looking for witnesses

On Thursday evening (16th January), a 21-year-old wanted to sell a mobile phone to two men who were previously unknown to him. However, these men apparently did not want to buy the high-quality iPhone, but instead wanted to exchange it for a worthless counterfeit.
The planned sale in Prof.-Bier-Straße in Korbach ultimately ended with the theft of the mobile phone, during which the perpetrators also used violence. The police are asking for information.

The 21-year-old had offered an Apple iPhone for sale for over 1,000 euros on an online classifieds portal. An interested party responded to the offer. They arranged to meet on Thursday evening in the pedestrian zone of Korbach near the Waldeck-Frankenberg Bank.

At around 6.45 pm, two men appeared for the arranged meeting. One of them stated that he wanted to check whether it was an original device. The 21-year-old handed over the iPhone, which was in a box, to the man sitting in the car on Prof.-Bier-Straße.

The two supposed buyers then started to haggle with the seller. When the 21-year-old did not agree to the price suggestions, one of the men returned a box with an iPhone. However, the seller quickly noticed that it was not his original device, but a counterfeit. He confronted the two men.

Shortly afterwards, a scuffle ensued, during which the two perpetrators pushed the 21-year-old to the ground and then fled on foot with the stolen goods. The perpetrators left their car, a silver VW with Hanover license plates, at the scene of the crime. The victim briefly pursued one of the perpetrators towards the town hall, but could not catch up with him. He then alerted the police, who immediately started searching for the two perpetrators, but were unable to find them. The police secured the VW Golf.

The two perpetrators were described as follows:

25 to 30 years old,

170 to 175 cm tall,

strong build,

black hair with undercut, one with a bald forehead,

full beard,

presumably Eastern Europeans,

one dressed in black, one wore a beige jacket.

The initial investigations on suspicion of robbery theft have not yet led to the identification of the two perpetrators. Therefore, the police are asking for information from the public. Anyone who can provide relevant information is asked to contact the Korbach criminal police at Tel. 05631/9710.
