(Trossingen A81 / District of Tuttlingen) - Driving without a valid license (17.01.2025)

On Friday morning, the police stopped a 32-year-old driver on the A81 motorway who was driving without a valid driving license. At around 10:00 am, officers checked the driver at the Weigenbach parking lot, who could only present a copy of a Lebanese driving license.
As it turned out, the man has been living in Germany for over 1.5 years and should have applied for a German driving license at the latest after six months in order to continue driving a vehicle. The officers prohibited the continuation of the journey and initiated criminal proceedings for driving without a license.

Rules for foreign driving licenses in Germany:

Driving licenses from countries outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) are generally only valid for a period of six months after registering a residence in Germany. Within this period, a German driving license must be applied for and obtained if the person wishes to continue driving a vehicle. Violation of these regulations constitutes a criminal offense.
