250117-3-K Video control center employee transfers suspected bicycle thief - Arrest

With the help of an attentive employee of the video control center, police forces in Cologne apprehended a suspected bicycle thief (30) and fence, as well as a potential buyer (15) at the station square on Thursday evening (January 16). The 30-year-old man, who has previous convictions, was subsequently arrested.
According to initial findings, the police video surveillance employee noticed the 30-year-old suspiciously inspecting the parked bicycles in front of the main station around 6:15 p.m. and dispatched a patrol team. After the 30-year-old had grabbed an unlocked, red mountain bike and passed it on to the 15-year-old, the police forces arrived and apprehended the two suspects directly in front of the station building.

Since the 30-year-old does not have a permanent residence in Germany, he is to be presented to a magistrate today. (ph/al)
