BPOL-H: 18-year-old found with airsoft gun on regional train - Danger for all involved!

On Wednesday evening, an 18-year-old German caused a major police operation at the train station in Neustadt am Rübenberge. Previously, a traveler had informed the Lower Saxony State Police about the young man, who was openly handling a pistol on the regional train traveling from Hanover to Bremen.
Upon receiving the information, forces from the state and federal police were immediately alerted and dispatched to the train station in Neustadt a. R., equipped for such situations. A short time later, local state police officers were able to identify the person described by travelers and arrest him without resistance in the halted regional train at Neustadt a. R. station. During the search, the officers discovered a black airsoft pistol. This was a high-quality product, which showed no classic toy features and could hardly be distinguished from a real firearm. The airsoft pistol was seized as evidence. After verifying his identity and further police measures, the 18-year-old was released from police custody at the train station in Neustadt a. R. According to current knowledge, the airsoft pistol was not used against innocent travelers. Due to the characteristics of the pistol, the officers initiated an investigation for illegal possession of a firearm.

The Federal Police expressly warns of the possible consequences of publicly carrying weapons or imitation weapons. Alerted forces often cannot or can only very difficultly distinguish the deceptively real-looking weapons from a distance from a real weapon. In case of doubt, the service firearm must be threatened or even used in an emergency. Anyone behaves negligently puts themselves in a potentially very dangerous situation. Recipients of police measures should definitely behave cooperatively, follow the instructions of the police and under no circumstances point the weapon at present persons. It is best not to carry weapons in public or even openly handle them.
