While one of the victims immediately saw through the scam and simply ended the conversation without responding to the "offer", one man fell for the lie. He went to the bank to withdraw his money so it could be "checked". Fortunately, the bank staff became suspicious, refused the payout and informed the senior about the scam.
The police are investigating and warning against such dubious calls. Please do not believe everything strangers tell you on the phone - even if they claim to be from the police. Such fraudsters can be easily unmasked by asking them counter-questions or by calling the (real) police yourself to check if the information is correct. |cri
