Greven, Data-Phishing

A 70-year-old man from Greven fell victim to data phishing on Tuesday (14.01.25). He initially received an SMS on his mobile phone.
The message asked the man to update the TAN app of his bank. He clicked on a link sent with it and entered his account details. Then he received a call. The caller claimed that the 70-year-old had been a victim of fraud, and now the "bank employee" needed all access data to further accounts and access to the computer. By the time the man from Greven realized the scam, he had already given out too much information.

Several transfers were made from his accounts. The man had his accounts blocked, one transfer could still be stopped. However, the total damage was in the low five-figure euro range.

Important to know: Banks never send text messages or emails asking for your access data. If a link is sent, do not follow it! This is data phishing. The term is a combination of the words "password" and "fishing" - criminals are fishing for sensitive data such as passwords, PINs or TANs. They want to gain access to accounts in order to steal money.
