(BC) (GP) (HDH) (UL) Region - On the move in winter - but safely / The cold in winter has its pitfalls. The police provide safety tips

"Especially now, when temperatures fluctuate around freezing point, dangerous ice sheets form on car roofs, trucks and trailer tarps," says Chief Police Commissioner Thomas Rau from the Laupheim Traffic Service. Thick snow caps form on windows, bonnet and roof.
The snow on the vehicle quickly becomes a danger to others: For example, when the frozen snow or an ice sheet slides off the vehicle. If they hit another vehicle, it can lead to precarious situations. Even a small ice sheet has the power to shatter a window. Dangerous evasion and braking are the result. It is particularly difficult to maintain control of your vehicle in winter. This can lead to traffic accidents with high property damage or even injuries.

Therefore, ice or snow must be removed before each trip. A broom or ice scraper are suitable for this. However, anyone who endangers others will be reported by the police. This results in a fine and even points in Flensburg.

But to reach your destination safely, it is also important to keep a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front. This way, you can react in time if the person in front brakes because snow or ice falls from a vehicle.
