Moers - Police seek witnesses after scam

On Wednesday between 10 and 10.30 am, con artists stole high-quality jewelry from a single-family house on Cheruskerstraße. The two men rang the doorbell and presented themselves to the resident as employees of the company Deutsche Glasfaser.
One perpetrator engaged the victim in conversation, while the other announced he wanted to inspect the distribution boxes.

When the supposed company employees had left the house, the 59-year-old victim noticed that several pieces of jewelry were missing.

Police search measures have so far been unsuccessful.

According to the victim, the man who engaged him in conversation is about 1.85 meters tall and slim. He also has blue eyes and dark hair. He is approximately 30 years old. He was dressed in a dark suit and blue shirt. His left hand is adorned with a dark tattoo. His accomplice is about 1.65 meters tall, has black hair and a mustache. He was carrying a shoulder bag.

Witness information can be given to the South Police Station in Moers at the phone number 02841 / 171-0.

The police advise:

Look closely at visitors through the peephole or window before opening the door. Only open the door with the security bolt in place. Do not let strangers into your home! Ask unknown people to come back at a later time when a trusted person is present. Only let tradesmen into your home who you have ordered yourself or who have been announced by the property management and can identify themselves. The same applies to supposed representatives of companies.
