(UL) Ulm - Police investigate arson / On Tuesday, emergency services were called to a balcony fire in Ulm-Wiblingen

At 2 p. m.
, a caller reported a fire on the balcony of the first floor of a multi-family house on Johannes-Palm-Straße. The fire department responded with a large contingent and extinguished the fire. The approximately 15 residents present left the building and thus brought themselves to safety. In the attempt to extinguish the burning mattress, three residents suffered minor injuries from inhaling smoke. The police began investigations. Due to witness information, suspicion was directed at two boys. They were seen throwing firecrackers near the scene shortly before the fire. Yesterday, an eleven-year-old boy and his mother reported to the police. He admitted that he and his 13-year-old friend had likely caused the fire with fireworks. This resulted in damage to the facade of about 5,000 euros in addition to the damaged mattress.

The Ulm Criminal Police took over further investigations. The investigations in this case are being conducted by staff from the "House of Juvenile Justice".

Background information:

The House of Juvenile Justice began its work in January 2020 and is responsible for handling crimes committed by children, adolescents and young adults in the city of Ulm and its surroundings. Under one roof, the police, public prosecutor's office and youth welfare work together trustingly in criminal proceedings. Their goals include effectively combating juvenile crime, further developing juvenile criminal justice by shortening the duration of proceedings, and responding more quickly and coordinated to delinquent behavior, thereby strengthening victim protection at the same time.
