The suspects allegedly posed as "fake craftsmen/water workers", not only in the Diepholz district. They mainly targeted elderly people and pretended to be employees of the local waterworks. Under the pretext of needing to check the pipes in the house, they gained access to the houses. They distracted the victims and allowed the following perpetrators to enter the house by leaving the front door open.
After the arrest of the four men in Berlin, their apartments in the Diepholz district were searched by the police. Two men aged 20 and 30 were brought before a magistrate who issued arrest warrants at the request of the public prosecutor's office.
