The first check took place on Monday (13.01.25) in Geniner Dorfstraße. Here, the officers of the 4th Police Precinct Lübeck focused on checking car traffic. Between 10:30 and 12:00, all vehicle traffic was monitored. In total, the control forces detected 23 violations in this short period. 17 drivers were using their mobile phones illegally while driving. This violation is punished with a fine of 100 euros and one point in the Flensburg traffic register. In addition, three vehicle occupants were not wearing their seat belts. They will have to expect a warning fine of 30 euros. One driver was suspected of operating his vehicle under the influence of intoxicating substances. He was subjected to a blood test and his further journey was prohibited. Regarding the initiated administrative offense proceedings, he faces at least a 500 euro fine, 2 points in Flensburg, and a one-month driving ban. In two cases, the control forces issued so-called control reports because the required first aid material and safety vests were not carried. The affected persons now have 10 days to rectify the identified deficiencies.
Particular attention was paid to bicycle traffic on Tuesday (14.01.25) in Beckergrube. There, four officers of the 1st Police Precinct Lübeck conducted checks from 07:30 to 08:30. In total, 14 cyclists and three e-scooter riders illegally used the sidewalk coming from Breite Straße towards the street "An der Untertrave". Four more cyclists were observed riding on the sidewalk of Beckergrube from Untertrave towards Breite Straße in the opposite direction. For eight students on their bicycles, the control forces held educational talks in which they were pointed out their misconduct. For the remaining 23 controlled road users, administrative offense proceedings were initiated.
Also on Tuesday afternoon, there was a second check of vehicle traffic in Geniner Dorfstraße. During the one-and-a-half-hour control from 13:30 to 15:00, the police detected 18 violations. The majority were again for illegal mobile phone use while driving. In addition, the officers of the 4th Police Precinct penalized a red light violation and in one case, they objected to inadequately secured cargo. Ignoring the red light is sanctioned with at least a 90 euro fine and one point in Flensburg. For the violation against the provisions of cargo securing in the vehicle, the person concerned can expect a warning fine of 35 euros.
The results show that such checks are still necessary. They make an important contribution to increasing road safety in the Hanseatic city. For this reason, the Lübeck Police Directorate will continue to pay close attention to compliance with traffic rules and carry out targeted traffic checks.
