Joint press release from the Hechingen Public Prosecutor's Office and the Reutlingen and Ravensburg Police HeadquartersBurladingen (ZAK) / Gammertingen (SIG):The police have recorded a success in their investigations into a series of thefts at cemeteries in the Zollernalb district and the districts of Reutlingen and Sigmaringen with the arrest of a 38-year-old man. The Hechingen Public Prosecutor's Office and a joint investigation group from the Burladingen and Gammertingen police stations are investigating him on suspicion of commercial theft of sacred objects, damage to property and disturbance of the peace of the dead.
The suspect is now in pre-trial detention.

Between September 2024 and January 2025, a large number of bronze figures and objects were stolen from cemeteries in several municipalities in the Zollernalb district and in the districts of Reutlingen and Sigmaringen, and graves and grave decorations were damaged. He was able to be located and temporarily arrested at his home address in the Sigmaringen district immediately before his departure on Monday (13.01.2025).

The Hungarian national was presented to the magistrate at the Hechingen District Court on Tuesday afternoon (14.01.2024). She issued the arrest warrant applied for by the Hechingen Public Prosecutor's Office and put it into effect. The man was admitted to a penal institution.
