Accident witnesses sought

On Thursday, around 5:30 pm, an Opel driver wanted to make a prohibited left turn from Leipziger Straße in Meiningen into Defertshäuser Weg. He stopped his vehicle and let the oncoming traffic and pedestrians pass during the green light phase.
When the road appeared to be clear, he drove off and presumably overlooked an unknown road user, possibly a cyclist. He heard a loud bang - but since he did not notice any people, he continued driving. Only the next day did he notice a deep dent in his rear right vehicle door and reported the accident. The police are asking witnesses who have observed the traffic accident or possibly injured persons to contact the Schmalkalden-Meiningen police station at the telephone number 03693 591-0 and the file number 0010380/2025.
