Fake bank employee steals money

Already on January 11, 2025, a 70-year-old woman from Ludwigshafen was called by a supposed bank employee. He claimed that there had been unauthorized movements on the woman's account.
To dispute this, she now had to transfer money. The 70-year-old complied with this request and transferred around 1,600 euros.

False bank employees act professionally and use technological possibilities to deceive their victims. Often, fake emails, text messages or calls are used to create the impression that it is the real bank. By pretending there is an emergency, such as the account being hacked or unauthorized debits being made, the perpetrators exert pressure and thus obtain confidential data, such as username, PIN number or TAN.
