Pickpockets take advantage of opportunities that present themselves in various forms or that they create themselves. Simple behaviors offer the best protection against such acts.

For example, they use the scam in the supermarket where customers are approached in the store and asked about the range of goods. While they are helpfully given information, they use the inattention of the person being asked to steal valuables. This happened on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., to a woman from Jade, who was approached by a woman in a clothing store on Weserstraße in Brake and was presumably stolen from by an accomplice. According to the victim, both women wore headscarves and were about 30 to 40 years old.

On the same day, between 11:40 and 12:15 p.m., criminals took advantage of an opportunity in a discount store of the same shopping center. A woman from Brake was shopping in the store and was distracted by a phone call on her mobile. Meanwhile, unknown persons reached into the handbag hanging on the shopping cart and stole the woman's wallet.

Another trick was used on a man also on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 2:20 p.m., in the parking lot at "Mühlendamm" in Wildeshausen. There he was approached by an unknown man and asked to change small change. When the victim helpfully opened his wallet and took out coins, the trick thief took advantage of a moment of distraction to steal banknotes.

The repertoire of trick thieves is extensive and constantly expanding.
