The fire brigade initially did not detect any significantly increased values in the area around the swimming pool. However, fire brigade personnel in the swimming pool could perceive that a small amount of gas had escaped due to a fault in the chlorine gas system and had triggered the alarm. Subsequently, the room with the chlorine gas system was opened, the connected gas cylinders were closed, thus preventing further gas leakage.
According to an initial assessment by the fire brigade, there was no actual danger to the residents. In total, 64 personnel from various fire brigades in the Altenburg region and the hazardous materials unit were deployed. The police had to turn away onlookers at the scene.
