When changing to the left lane, he overlooked a VW bus, presumably in his blind spot. The driver of the bus was only able to avoid a collision by braking hard and swerving to the left. Due to the hard braking, a car driver directly behind them collided with the VW bus due to insufficient safety distance.
The driver of the car transporter continued his journey unperturbed and thus illegally left the scene of the accident.
The VW bus was a service vehicle of the Federal Police. The two service dog handlers were slightly injured by the rear-end collision. It was not yet clear at the time of the accident report whether the two service dogs carried were injured by the impact.
The resulting property damage is estimated to be around 10,000 euros.
The left lane was closed for about an hour for recovery and towing operations.
The highway police are now looking for witnesses who may be able to provide relevant information about the fleeing car transporter.
