In doing so, he repeatedly disregarded prescribed speed limits and ran red lights. At times, the fleeing driver drove at a speed of around 85 km/h in areas where only 30 km/h is allowed. The pursuit extended over Mühlen-Delbrück, Niefeld, and Sperberstraße. From Dorstener Straße, the vehicle then turned onto the A52 and exited the highway again at the Hassel exit. On Feldhauser Straße, the accused drove at an estimated speed of well over 100 km/h before he suddenly stopped at the level of Reubekampstraße. The officers immediately asked the man to leave the vehicle. Since he did not comply with the request, they pulled the man out of the vehicle and restrained him. The man sustained minor injuries, but he declined an ambulance. The officers took the man to the station, where a doctor took blood samples. During his escape, the 41-year-old man from Gelsenkirchen threw objects, presumably various narcotics, out of the vehicle. They were secured by the officers. The vehicle was also seized. In the VW, the officers found several firecrackers, apparently unlicensed "Polish bangers". A check of the accused revealed that he is currently not in possession of a valid driving license. The officers filed criminal charges on suspicion of endangering road traffic, reckless driving, driving without a license, and suspicion of violating the Explosives Act. The investigation is ongoing.
Also driving at an obviously excessive speed was a 19-year-old man from Gelsenkirchen on Friday, January 10, 2025, in the old town area. The vehicle, an Audi, had attracted the officers' attention because of its driving style on Hiberniastraße. For this reason, they initially followed the vehicle. When the driver noticed the officers, he accelerated strongly and subsequently ran three red lights to evade a check. When the vehicle finally wanted to drive into a parking garage on Husemannstraße, it had to stop in front of the barrier there. When the officers caught up, no one was sitting in the driver's seat anymore. The passenger, also 19 years old, immediately stated that the man who was now sitting behind the driver's seat had been driving. The suspect stated on the spot that he did not have a driving license. A drug test carried out at the station was negative. The suspect was released after the measures were completed. The investigation is also ongoing in this case.
