Alleged shoplifter loses his ID card while fleeing

A 46-year-old man from Sankt Augustin inadvertently helped investigators: After an attempted shoplifting in Troisdorf, he lost his wallet including his ID during his escape. On Saturday afternoon (January 11), the man stole a bottle of gin from a delicatessen in downtown Troisdorf.
An employee noticed the theft, followed the perpetrator onto the street and confronted him. The thief had hidden the bottle, worth just over 20 euros, in a black bag. A scuffle ensued over the bag until the 46-year-old took out the bottle and returned it to the employee.

The man then fled on his bicycle. In the process, he apparently lost his wallet unnoticed. The police secured it and added it to the records. As part of the investigation, the 46-year-old can pick up his papers again. (Bi)
