Dortmund Police draw conclusions - over 2000 missing persons cases in 2024

This includes, for example, missing persons, especially when it is assumed that they are in danger to life and limb. The same applies to minors, where the police always assume a dangerous situation for them.
In the jurisdiction of the Dortmund Police Headquarters, a total of 2322 missing person cases were reported via the emergency number "110" in 2024 (Dortmund: 2135, Lünen: 187). Not all of these operations led to a missing person report. This is the case, for example, when a child is found by a patrol at the Christmas market after a short search.
However, 2030 missing person cases were fully processed at the Missing Persons Office of the Criminal Investigation Department 11 this year. And in almost all cases, the missing person was found. Only in a low single-digit number was a deceased person found, which can be the case, for example, in suicides. This automatically leads to a death investigation procedure, which is supposed to clarify the exact circumstances, but especially to determine whether a crime has been committed. These death investigation procedures are also handled in CID 11.
Currently (as of 09.01.25), there are only 20 procedures pending at the Dortmund Missing Persons Office. Some of them will probably never be solved, as the person has, for example, fled abroad.
Cases where a person's life and health are actually at risk are given the highest priority. The police then pull out all the stops - around the clock and 7 days a week - as the situation requires. These include:
