Extension of the strategic search in the downtown area of Paderborn

(mh) The strategic search originally scheduled from December 13, 2024, to January 10, 2025, in Paderborn city center continues. Christoph Rüther, head of the Paderborn District Police Authority, extended the stop and visual checks until Friday, February 7th.
Accordingly, further checks took place over the past weekend.

These were generally quiet. On Friday afternoon, the police checked a 21-year-old driver on Marienstraße at around 4.45 p.m. In the footwell on the passenger side, where a 23-year-old was sitting, the officers found a loaded PTB weapon along with additional ammunition. Due to suspicion of violation of the weapons law, the weapon and the associated ammunition were seized and a criminal complaint was filed against the 21-year-old.

Early Sunday morning, the police were called to a brawl between several people on Westernstraße at around 5.40 a.m. Three young men aged 22, 20, and 19 claimed to have been attacked by three to four people of southern appearance. All three sustained minor injuries. Ambulances took the 22-year-old and the 20-year-old to Paderborn hospitals for further examinations. A search for the suspects was unsuccessful.

The strategic search allows the police, according to paragraph 12a of the Police Act NRW, to prevent crimes of considerable importance by stopping people in public traffic areas and inspecting vehicles and carried items. The checks are carried out as part of special operations and in everyday patrol service.
