Fire Department Nuremberg: Massive room fire in a communal accommodation in the Sünderbühl district triggers a major operation by the rescue forces

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 5:07 a. m.
, the Nuremberg Fire Department and the rescue service were alerted to Holzschuherstraße. The initial alarm was for a room fire, but this was changed to a room fire with people in danger while the first responders were still en route by the Integrated Control Centre Nuremberg. This triggered a major operation for the Nuremberg Fire Department, the rescue service, and the police.

The first fire brigade from Fire Station 1, upon arrival, identified a room fire with heavy smoke development on the first floor of a large building. One person appeared at a window and was threatened by flames and smoke. The rescue of this person with the turntable ladder was immediately initiated and additional teams with breathing apparatus and fire hoses were sent into the building. The second fire brigade from Fire Stations 3 and 4 took over the operation section in the courtyard of the building and was able to rescue another person with a portable ladder.

The targeted rescue and fire-fighting measures on the first floor quickly took effect. The remaining people from the fire floor and the area above were all able to leave the house unharmed and make their way to the waiting rescue service. Due to the large number of residents, the rescue service set up a care and supply point in a VAG bus. Here, all residents were checked, cared for, and looked after.

After about 45 minutes, the fire was extinguished and the dangerous smoke was removed from the building with fans. The police immediately began investigating the cause of the fire.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the fire. The building serves as a communal accommodation with many single rooms. It is no longer habitable for the time being due to fire damage to the infrastructure.

About 40 professional firefighters and the fire brigades of the volunteer fire departments from Gartenstadt and Werderau were involved in the operation. The rescue service was on duty with the medical incident command several rapid response groups. Several police patrols were on site for security and to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Nuremberg Fire Department cannot provide any information on the amount of the damage caused. [SL/SK]
