Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office and Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters

The Ludwigsburg district was once again heavily affected by calls from fake police officers this week. After unknown individuals were already at work in mid-December, mainly in Vaihingen an der Enz and Markgröningen, using the scam (we reported:
resseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/110974/5928793">https://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/110974/5928793), the "real" police have been notified in over 80 cases since Monday, 13.01.2025. Around 40 calls were reported from Ditzingen alone, nearly 30 times the phone rang in Remseck am Neckar, and over 10 cases were reported from Ludwigsburg. In all cases, the fake police officers reported burglaries in the neighborhood, arrested burglars with name lists of further potential victims, and similar fabricated circumstances. The aim was always to obtain information about financial circumstances and valuables stored at home.

Fortunately, no damage occurred in any of the reported cases. Rather, most of the people called immediately recognized the scam, hung up, and contacted the police themselves.

In one case from Ludwigsburg, it was only thanks to an attentive witness that damage in the five-figure range could be prevented at the last moment. The 37-year-old, who offers private driving services via an online platform, brought a passenger to an address in a Ludwigsburg district on Wednesday (15.01.2025) around 20:30. Upon arrival, the witness heard his passenger posing as a plainclothes officer to an older woman and explaining that he needed to pick up money. The 37-year-old driver then alerted the police, who were able to temporarily arrest the suspect - a 19-year-old German - on the spot. At this point, the suspect had already received a box of cash and valuables from his 83-year-old victim and loaded it into the trunk of the car. At the request of the Stuttgart public prosecutor's office, the 19-year-old was presented to a magistrate at the Stuttgart district court on Thursday (16.01.2025), who issued an arrest warrant for gang-related and commercial fraud and put it into effect. The 19-year-old was then admitted to a correctional facility. The criminal police's investigations are ongoing.
