For reasons yet to be determined, he veered into oncoming traffic, where a 43-year-old man from Bad Salzuflen was driving his VW Transporter towards Bad Salzuflen. The Mercedes collided with the rear of the VW, causing the 43-year-old to swerve his transporter to the left and end up in a ditch on the side of the road towards Kalletal. The Mercedes came to a stop on a downhill slope. The 66-year-old was trapped and had to be rescued from the car. The emergency services transported him to a hospital with serious injuries. Initially assumed life-threatening injuries are currently no longer a concern. The 43-year-old was slightly injured and was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The Paderborn traffic accident investigation team assisted at the scene. The vehicles were no longer drivable and were secured; there was an estimated property damage of 80,000 euros. The road remained fully closed for the accident investigation until approximately 11 pm.
