The police warn - Fake water workers are again on the move in the city area

For the umpteenth time, the Bremerhaven police had several operations on Wednesday, January 15, due to fake craftsmen who intended to enter the apartments of elderly citizens with the intention of theft. Around noon, the police operations center received several calls in which the reporters always described the same procedure of the perpetrators.
Under the pretense of false facts, they each posed as water workers, they managed or tried to enter the apartments of the victims. The three men claimed that something was wrong with the drinking water and they would have to check it now. In one case, on Vieländer Weg, they kept the 87-year-old apartment owner busy in the bathroom. During this time, at least one other man stole jewelry from the apartment. In two other cases on Gärtnerstraße and Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße, a 96-year-old woman and an 81-year-old couple noticed the impending crime and alerted the police. The perpetrators, three men aged between 25 and 45, some of whom were wearing craftsmen's clothing, then fled in an unknown direction.

The police ask people who can provide information on the crimes or who have made conspicuous observations near the crime scene to call 0471/953-4444.

The police renew their warning:

The Bremerhaven police advise:

As a general rule: Do not let strangers into your apartment! - Before opening the door, find out who wants to come to you! Use windows, door viewers, intercom systems and only open your door with a door lock or chain in place! - For unannounced (craftsmen) visits, ask for identification papers and check by phone with the respective companies. Any reputable craftsman or reader would understand if they had to wait initially. - Even in alleged emergencies, such as a burst pipe, do not be rushed. If in doubt, ask the municipal utilities, building management or neighbors by phone. - Ask the stranger to come back at a later time when trusted persons (neighbor, relatives etc.) are present! - Do not show strangers any personal documents or valuables; ideally, keep these safe in a safe or bank safe deposit box! - Defend yourself against intrusive visitors if necessary: Speak loudly with them or call for help. - Immediately inform the police if a contact seems suspicious to you: Emergency number 110.
