Car Theft - Police Arrest Two 16-Year-Old Suspects

On Tuesday evening, January 14, 2025, police arrested two 16-year-old Germans in Wülfrath who had been driving a stolen VW Golf. They also recovered previously stolen license plates that were attached to the car.
The officers initiated several investigations.

This is what happened according to current knowledge:

At around 8:45 p.m., plainclothes police officers observed a VW Golf with a city identification for the Hochsauerlandkreis (HSK-) parked on Eichenweg near a restaurant. A query in the police research system revealed that the license plates had been stolen from a commuter parking lot in the Warendorf district on the same day.

During a short-term observation, the officers identified two young men. When they returned to the parked VW Golf, the officers temporarily arrested the 16-year-old suspects.

Further investigations on site revealed that the VW Golf had also been stolen. Unknown perpetrators had stolen the car, which was offered for sale on an online portal, during a sales conversation near Aachen on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

The officers seized the VW Golf as well as burglary tools and other stolen goods found in the vehicle. The current ongoing investigations are focusing on where the valuables came from.

The 16-year-old Germans, who have previously been involved in criminal activities, were temporarily arrested and taken to the Velbert police station. The criminal police took over further processing and are currently checking whether the two suspects will be presented to a magistrate on the orders of the public prosecutor's office on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
