250115.1 - Kiel - Witnesses sought after dangerous interference in road traffic and resistance

Last Thursday, a police officer was on his way to work when he noticed a person sitting in the driver's seat of a car with the engine running on Holtenauer Street, even though this person is known not to have a driving license. Resistance ensued.
The man then fled in the vehicle. The 1st Police Station Kiel has started investigations and is looking for witnesses.

On January 9, 2025, around 7 pm, the 31-year-old police officer was on his way to the night shift. At Holtenauer Street 65, the officer noticed a male person sitting in a vehicle with the engine running in front of a driveway, but knowingly not in possession of a valid driving license. The police officer immediately informed the control center, which promptly dispatched a patrol car to the scene. Before the requested colleagues arrived, the male person wanted to move the vehicle to let another road user pass. The 31-year-old then approached the man to prevent him from driving off and identified himself as a police officer. He repeatedly asked the man to get out of the vehicle, the 62-year-old driver then randomly and uncontrollably operated the pedals, causing the vehicle to accelerate backwards. A collision with the vehicle parked behind could only be prevented by the driver braking hard. Immediately after braking, the man accelerated the vehicle again and drove out of the parking space towards the road. The police officer held the driver by the arm through the open driver's door the whole time. To avoid being injured or hit, the police officer then stepped back. The driver then accelerated the vehicle and left in the direction of Dreiecksplatz. The immediate search for the fleeing vehicle was unsuccessful.

The 1st Police Station Kiel is conducting further investigations and has initiated criminal proceedings for dangerous interference with road traffic and resistance to law enforcement officers.

The license plate or type of vehicle could not be specified by the affected police officer due to the situation. Due to the location and time of day, pedestrians and road users should have noticed the incident. Witnesses are therefore asked to contact the 1st Police Station Kiel at the phone number 0431-1601110.
