BPOL NRW: Civilian investigators of the Federal Police arrest "thief duo

Civilian pickpocket detectives of the Federal Police arrested two women (23, 46) at 5:30 pm on Saturday afternoon (January 11, 2025), after they stole a wallet from a 63-year-old German woman. The suspects were arrested.
The 45-year-old suspect from Bosnia was presented to the duty magistrate. The 23-year-old, also from Bosnia, was released due to lack of grounds for detention. The stolen goods, worth 4000 EUR, were fully returned to the 63-year-old victim. A criminal procedure for particularly serious theft was initiated.

Civilian detectives of the Federal Police had already noticed the two women at Düsseldorf's main train station, after they specifically looked out for travelers with luggage. The detectives followed the duo towards the city center. In the area of Königsallee, the two suspects then targeted the 63-year-old victim. The 23-year-old skillfully stole the wallet from the handbag she was carrying, while the accomplice concealed the act with a scarf she was carrying. Afterwards, both women turned away from the victim and tried to escape unnoticed.

Immediately after the act, both suspects were apprehended by the officers and temporarily arrested. The wallet, including its contents, was secured and immediately returned to the victim. The transport to the station and the subsequent search was carried out with the support of the Düsseldorf police.

The 45-year-old Bosnian woman had no fixed residence and was presented to a magistrate the following day. The 23-year-old was able to leave the station the same evening due to lack of grounds for detention.
