A VW Passat is not a Maruti

HC/ Bielefeld-Downtown- On Monday, 13.01.2025, police officers stopped a car driver under the influence of drugs. The car had false and manipulated license plates.
During their patrol, around 02:00 am, on Alfred-Bozi-Straße, at the junction to Friedenstraße, police officers noticed a VW Passat with Warendorf license plates. During the subsequent check, a 25-year-old man from Herford was behind the wheel and a 23-year-old man from Bielefeld was in the passenger seat. The man from Bielefeld stated that the VW was his vehicle. A check revealed that the attached license plates had been issued for a Maruti car, which had already been deregistered since August 2023. Upon inspection of the license plates, the manipulation of the state emblem was noticed. The VW had previously had Gütersloh license plates, which had been de-stamped in March 2024.

The car and the license plates were seized and a criminal complaint was filed for violation of the compulsory insurance law, violation of the vehicle registration regulation, offense against the motor vehicle tax law, and forgery of documents.

A preliminary drug test of the 25-year-old driver was positive. A doctor took a blood sample from him at the police station.
