At around 2:40 pm, the driver of a freight train reported that he may have hit a person near Cologne South Station. The emergency services immediately went to the supposed accident site.
On site, the police thoroughly searched the now closed railway line, fortunately without result. A helicopter immediately requested also found no person in the track area.
The train driver stated that he had been able to perceive a person who had been on the tracks. He then sounded an acoustic signal and initiated an emergency brake. He did not feel a hit.
In retrospect, state police officers were able to encounter a 45-year-old German. He stated that he had been in the track area and had jumped aside just before a collision with the freight train. Due to the initiated emergency braking, there is suspicion of dangerous interference with rail traffic. A corresponding criminal proceeding against the man was initiated.
The track closure caused significant disruptions to rail traffic.
