On January 18, 2025, at around 10:26 PM, a 23-year-old from VGV Selters was driving his car on Industriestraße in Mülheim-Kärlich, heading towards McDonald's. Near the depot, he skidded, veered to the right onto the high curb, and collided with two flagpole advertisements, sliding over them.
After about 50 meters, the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle appeared to be a total loss. The damage to the vehicle and the poles is estimated by the local police station to be around 50,000 EUR. Due to the accident, operating fluids leaked from the car, which were removed from the road by a specialist company. The driver was unharmed and stated that he had swerved to avoid an animal crossing the road. The Mülheim-Kärlich fire department, the regulatory office of the Weißenthurm municipality, and the Andernach police were on the scene.
