Eschwege: Residential fire in Vierbach - Final report

The 88-year-old resident was in the house with her son at the time of the fire. Both were alerted to the fire by neighbors and were able to leave the house in time, remaining unharmed.

The initial investigations into the cause of the fire by the specialist department of the Werra-Meißner Police Directorate preliminarily revealed that the wood stove was in operation. The outbreak of the fire was detected in the area of a roof beam, which ran close to the chimney, and, according to the evidence, the fire originated.

Deliberate arson can currently be ruled out.

The house is currently uninhabitable due to the extent of the fire and will need to be assessed for structural integrity at a later date.

The preliminary damage is estimated at approximately 200,000 EUR.
