Kitesurfer in distress reported in the Kiel Fjord

On January 11, 2025, at 3:35 pm, a distress signal from a kitesurfer in the Kiel Fjord near the Friedrichsort Lighthouse was reported to the Central Control Center via the MRCC Bremen from a ship. Due to the weather conditions and low water temperatures, the Central Control Center immediately initiated extensive land, air, and water search measures.
The search was called off without result. 20 emergency personnel from the Kiel Fire Department were involved in the search, with the fireboat "Dat Füürschipp" and the drone component. Also involved were forces from the Water Police, forces from the DGzRS, the pilot boat "Laboe", and the rescue helicopter "Christoph 42".
