Although the officers pointed out to the teenagers that carrying additional people on e-scooters is prohibited and forbade them from continuing their journey together, they both got back on the two-wheeler and headed towards Kornweg/Starenweg. The officers stopped the 15-year-old driver, who remained unrepentant. To prevent further travel, the officers took the e-scooter and handed it over to the mother of the 15-year-old driver. He now faces a fine.
Information from the Bremerhaven Police on the operation of e-scooters in public road traffic In public road traffic, the scooter may only be driven with a general operating permit (ABE) or individual operating permit and with a valid insurance sticker (sticker), which is attached to the back of the vehicle. To get to your destination safely and properly with these small vehicles, there are a few things to consider:
Basics
As with all vehicles: familiarize yourself with your electric scooter and its functions before using it in public road traffic. Safe handling can prevent accidents. And of course, the vehicle needs brakes, a bell, and lights.
No helmet requirement - but recommendation! There is no obligation to wear a helmet on the e-scooter, but even at low speeds, a fall without a helmet can result in severe head injuries. Therefore, the Bremerhaven Police strongly advise: Wear a helmet! Who can use an electric micro-vehicle? The driver must be at least 14 years old. A driving license is not necessary.
Don't drink and drive! The same alcohol limits apply to e-scooters as for car drivers. This means: From 0.5 per mille you commit an administrative offence. Fines, points in the central traffic register in Flensburg and a driving ban are possible. Anyone driving a motor vehicle with 1.1 per mille or more is generally committing a criminal offence, even if no one is harmed during the journey.
E-scooters must use the bike path or bike lane. If not available, they must be driven on the road. Sidewalks and pedestrian zones may not be used. It is also prohibited to ride two people on an e-scooter.
And of course, the rule here too is: Keep your hands off your phone while driving!
Anyone who technically modifies their electric micro-vehicle so that it travels faster than 20 km/h must expect an administrative offence or criminal proceedings. Among other things, the operating permit of the device expires.
The Bremerhaven Police wish you a good and safe journey.
