250113-2-K Suspected fraudster recognized again through video surveillance - Arrest

On Friday (10th January) at around 3.20 pm, the Cologne police arrested a 37-year-old suspected EC card fraudster at the inner-city Neumarkt. Employees of the police video surveillance had recognized the suspect, who had initially fled after several crimes at Hohenzollernring, and assigned patrol forces.
A magistrate issued an arrest warrant on Saturday (11th January).

An employee of a discount store at Hohenzollernring had alerted the police after the 37-year-old had repeatedly purchased electronic items using apparently stolen debit cards the day before and then fled towards Rudolfplatz. The arresting officers found drugs and fraudulently obtained textiles from a clothing store on Schildergasse in his backpack. This part of his loot, as well as the EC card stolen from a Cologne woman in the Neumarkt area on Monday (6th January), was returned to the victims by the officers. (cg/al)
