While the counterculture of the 1960s had an impact on the youth of the 1970s, they were also open to new styles.
Disco, rock, and punk were popular among many. Platform shoes, bright, varied styles, and bell-bottom jeans were all in vogue. Environmental protection and social advocacy gained more and more attention. Some young people also regularly used drugs for recreational purposes, most often marijuana and LSD. Experimentation, individuality, and a general disdain for conventional wisdom defined the 1970s youth culture.
